Durga Mata is an aspect of Goddess Parvati, the Shakti or creative power of Lord Shiva. Known popularly as Amba, Bhavani, Kamakshi, Kali, or Lalita, Durga Mata commands a tremendous following among Hindus all across India. Usually seen as riding atop a tiger and bearing eight different weapons, Durga Ma symbolizes absolute energy and power. In her fierce aspect, she is worshipped as Mahishasura Mardhini or Kali or Chamundeshwari, or many other forms adopting which she destroyed the forces threatening the dharma manifest in the universe.
